Extended Learning Opportunities (ELO's)


Extended Learning Opportunities (ELO's ) allow students to earn credit through learning experiences that happen outside the traditional classroom.  The purpose of an ELO is to provide an educational experience that is meaningful and relevant by meeting the student's individual learning style, talents, and interests.  They are competency-based  and originates from student interest. 

Types of ELO'S 

  • Apprenticeship
  • Career Exploration
  • Community Service/Service Learing
  • Independent Study 
  • Internship
  • On-line Course
  • Private Instruction

ELO's can

  • Replace a course
  • Provide course remidiation
  • Accelerate academic achievement
  • Be used as a prerequisite
  • Be used for competency/course/credit recovery
  • Be eligible for dual credit 
  • Satisfy multiple course competencies
